Alzheimer’s Awareness Month: 8 Important Facts You Should Know

ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS MONTH: 8 IMPORTANT FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, almost 15% of living Americans may develop some form of dementia in their lifetime. While most major diseases have seen a decrease in death rates, Alzheimer’s disease has increased by 139% between 2000-2016. Here are 8 facts you may not know from Dr.Whitney’s recently launched Memory Treatment Center:

  1. Medications do not work

There are 42 identified root causes of Alzheimer’s disease.  Medications only treat one root cause, making it difficult to have a meaningful impact.  Medications do not work.

  1. A Simple genetic test called ApoE can help determine your lifetime risk of Alzheimer’s

This test will determine if your lifetime risk of Alzheimer’s is 5% or up to 90%. Appropriate lifestyle choices can dramatically reduce the activity of that gene, significantly reducing your risk of dementia.

  1. A major contributor to Alzheimer’s disease is daily use of acid blockers

Daily use of acid blockers contributes to nutrient deficiencies, which is a major contributor to Alzheimer’s. We need acid to digest food which increases our nutrient requirements.

  1. 60% of Alzheimer’s patients are women

Hormone deficiencies, including female hormones, are a significant root cause of Alzheimer’s.

  1. Microorganisms from our mouth have been identified as a cause of dementia

Microorganisms have been found in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients at high enough levels to be identified as one of the causes.

  1. Brain inflammation is a core cause of Alzheimer’s.

“Leaky gut” and a leaky blood-brain barrier also allow toxins from microorganisms like mold, bacteria, and viruses to drive inflammation in the brain.

  1. The costs of Alzheimer’s are extraordinary, with costs running well over $80k per year

AVERAGE monthly cost for Alzheimer’s Care Living Facilities in the Philadelphia region are $7,148 alone. Costs typically are not covered by insurance.

  1. Dementia can be slowed and even reversed

You can do this with proper diet, fasting, oral health, sleep, exercise, sleep, brain games, targeted nutrient supplements, and more!  A personalized plan increases success.

With Alzheimer’s disease, there is no single cause. It is a culmination of genetics, nutrient and hormone deficiencies, toxicity exposure, oral health, gut health, diabetes/pre-diabetes, and many others. Never underestimate the significance of brain fog or other subtle cognitive changes. Change likely reflects something that can be reversed if the root causes are identified and addressed soon enough. Minor cognitive decline is normal, but the problem is that we do not know who is going to progress to Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s Prevention is ideal, but early intervention is critical to increase the chance of reversal.
